MicroStrategy-Linked ETF MSTR Gained Most Last Week

A recently launched fund that seeks to capitalize on surging shares of MicroStrategy Inc.—the company with the biggest bitcoin ownership—gained the most among exchange-traded funds last week as investors piled into rising crypto-related investments.

A Charles Schwab dividend fund pulled in the most new money last week while the world's biggest ETF, the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY), topped outflows.

The YieldMax MSTR Option Income Strategy ETF (MSTY) gained 11% last week, according to etf.com data. The so-called covered call ETF has nearly doubled in price while pulling in $30.5 million since its Feb. 22 launch.

Serving as a proxy for bitcoin, it follows the fortunes of MicroStrategy, owner of more than $14 billion in the cryptocurrency, according to a recent Bloomberg News article. Investors may see the fund as a safer alternative to bitcoin since it permits only a certain amount of gains.

The Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF (SCHD) added $10.1 billion, or 15%, to lead inflows last week. The $64.5 billion fund was little-changed in terms of performance last week.

The outflows at SPY showed no sign of slowing, as the world's biggest and oldest ETF again led all funds in outflows. Investors pulled $2.58 billion from the $507.2 billion fund, putting the total outflows for this year at $33.5 billion.
